The molecular weight of Zinc Sulfide (ZnS) is 97.44. The density is 4.09. The melting point is 1830°C and the evaporation temperature at 10-2 Pa vacuum is 1200°C (sublimation). It can be heated and evaporated in tungsten, molybdenum and tantalum boat or in quartz crucible. The effect of electron beam heating evaporation is good.
The transparent region of ZnS thin film is 0.38 ~ 14 μm, and its refractive index in the visible region is 2.3 ~ 2.6. This is because it is close to the edge of short wave absorption, so the film has strong dispersion. Its refractive index in the infrared region is n = 2.2 (2 µm). When ZnS thin films are deposited on the substrate at room temperature, the firmness of the films is poor. If the films are deposited on the substrate at 150 ~ 200°C and baked at 250 ~ 300°C for 4 ~ 8 h, the firmness of the films will be obviously improved. If ion bombardment is carried out, similar results could be obtained. The refractive index of ZnS film increases with time in dry air, and becomes soft in humid air.

In the visible region, it is often combined with fluoride with low refractive index, while in the infrared region, it is often combined with semiconductor materials with high refractive index to form various filters in the visible and infrared regions. Packing and Storage
