Yttrium fluoride powder (YF₃ powder) is a kind of gray white crystal at room temperature. It is insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid, but soluble in perchloric acid. The YF₃ powder particles can be either irregular or spherical. The spherical YF₃ powder is deep processed powder by the spray granulation process and it’s mainly use d in the plasma spraying industries.

Yttrium fluoride powder (YF₃ powder) is used to prepare rare earth crystal laser materials, upconversion luminescent materials, fluoride glass optical fiber and fluoride optical rotation glass. It is used for manufacturing carbon electrode of arc lamp in lighting source. It is the raw material of making yttrium by electrolysis.
