Tellurium is a silver white metal. Its name comes from Tellus, meaning “land”, which was discovered by F.J. Müller von Reichenstein in 1782. Soluble in sulfuric acid, nitric acid, aqua regia, potassium cyanide, potassium hydroxide; insoluble in cold water and hot water, carbon disulfide. High purity tellurium is obtained from tellurium powder by extraction and refining with sodium polysulfide. The purity is 99.999%. For semiconductor devices, alloys, chemical raw materials and cast iron, rubber, glass and other industrial additives
NC Elements is a professional supplier of high-purity tellurium metals, in the forms of lumps, chucks, ingots, blocks, and beads. The purity levels are 4N, 5N, 6N or even 7N. Get a Quote Now! For other semiconductor materials, please check our Semiconductor Materials catalog page.
Typical application:
Most of the consumption of tellurium is applied in the metallurgical industry: adding a small amount of tellurium to steel and copper alloy can improve its cutting performance and increase its hardness; in white cast iron, tellurium is used as a carbide stabilizer to make the surface strong and wear-resistant; lead containing a small amount of tellurium can improve the corrosion resistance, wear resistance and strength of materials and be used as the sheath of submarine cables; adding tellurium to lead can increase the hardness of lead To make battery plates and typography.
Tellurium can be used as an additive of petroleum cracking catalyst and catalyst for glycol production. Tellurium oxide is used as a colorant for glass. High purity tellurium can be used as the alloy component of thermoelectric materials. Bismuth telluride is a good refrigeration material. Tellurium and some tellurides are semiconductor materials. Ultra-pure tellurium single crystal is a new type of infrared material.
