Indium is a silvery white and slightly bluish metal. It is very soft and can be scored with nails. Indium has strong plasticity, ductility and can be pressed into pieces. Metal indium is mainly used to make low melting alloy, bearing alloy, semiconductor, electric light source and other raw materials.

Ultra low temperature seal (indium)
Indium is an ideal material for many sealing applications (especially ultra-low temperature sealing, such as liquid nitrogen). There are two main advantages of using indium in ultra-low temperature seal:
*Indium can maintain ductility and malleability at ultra-low temperature, and will not crack or break at – 150°C.
*Indium is soft and tough. It can fill the gap between the two metal surfaces to form a complete seal.
Indium is widely used in electronic industry, conductor heat dissipation, high-tech sealing materials (vacuum sealing foil) and semiconductor heat dissipation (cooling), etc.
In addition, because of its soft nature, it is also used in some industries where filler metal is needed. For example: vacuum gap filling material at higher temperature.
Gallium indium / gallium indium tin alloy can be used as the substitute of mercury, as well as the filler of high temperature thermometer and high temperature manometer.
