Cadmium is a brilliant white metal with a melting point of 3209 °C. The boiling point is 765 °C and the relative density is 8.65. It has toughness and ductility. Cadmium oxidizes slowly in moist air and loses its metallic luster. When heated, the surface of cadmium forms a brown oxide layer.

Cadmium reacts with halogen to form cadmium halide at high temperatures. It can also react directly with sulfur to form cadmium sulfide. Cadmium is soluble in acid, but not in alkali.

Typical Applications:

Cadmium is mainly used in electroplating of steel, iron, copper, brass, and other metals. It has strong corrosion resistance to alkaline substances. Cadmium can be used to make batteries with small sizes and large capacitance. Cadmium compounds are also widely used in the production of pigments and phosphors. Pickaxes, cadmium selenide and cadmium telluride are used to make photocells.

The size of cadmium ingot is (240-270) mm × (60-80) mm × 40 mm. The thickness difference between the two ends is not more than 5 mm. The unit weight is 14 lb-18 lb. Cadmium ingots are packed in wooden cases.
