β-Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD)
Product β-Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD)
Synonym pyridine diphosphate nucleotide (DPN), coenzyme I
Part Number NCC-04
CAS Number 53-84-9

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), also known as pyridine diphosphate nucleotide (DPN) or coenzyme I. In mammals, NAD exist in two forms: an oxidized form NAD+ and an reduced form NADH. NAD+ has the maximum UV absorption spectrum at 260 nm. Through various deaminases, NAD+ receives a hydrogen atom and an electron from the substrate to form NADH, which has the maximum absorption at 340 nm.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is involved in many physiological activities, such as cell metabolism, energy synthesis, DNA repair, and so on. In healthy condition, its concentration in human body is stable and the normal function of cells is maintained. The concentration of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide in vivo determines the process and degree of cell aging. The decrease of it will accelerate the process of cell aging.

In addition, NAD+ can effectively protect the kidney injury caused by renal ischemia. Thus, NAD+ has important application value in the preparation of drugs for prevention and treatment of renal ischemic injury.

Furthermore, NAD+ has a certain application in the preparation of anti-inflammatory pain drugs.  It participates in the regulation of formalin and complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA) induced inflammatory pain through NAD+-dependent deacetylase SIRT1 and SIRT2. SIRT1 and SIRT1 participate in the inhibition of inflammatory pain by NAD+ through different mechanisms, so as to achieve analgesic effect on inflammatory pain.
